John White was born in the state of Louisiana. He was the fourth child and the first son in a family of 8. He graduated high school in 1965 and joined the Navy right after with two young men from the same area. John was stationed in Hawaii and the Philippines. John stayed in the area. In 1970 he was hired by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) and got married. He was the father of 4 daughters. John also had 3 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He and his wife celebrated 50 years of marriage. In 2005, John retired from PG&E after 35 years. In his retirement, John volunteered with several different groups. In 2006, John volunteered with the Clean and Green committee of Hayward for two years. In 2007, John served with the Veteran’s Color Guard and managed the Hayward Veteran’s Hall. John was always available to be of service for veterans that needed help. During his time of working with veterans, John spearheaded the creation of Post 870. He managed the distribution of the 50 year anniversary Vietnam pins in the Alameda County area.
